Zip disk

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

A small magnetic disk used to store data. The zip disk, designed to replace floppy disks, has a thicker, hard plastic shell around it to offer more protection to the magnetic disk inside. The floppy disk holds only 1.44 MB; the first zip disks held up to 100 MB of data, and later versions could hold up to 250 MB or 750 MB. The later versions never became as popular as the first one. The earlier zip drives could not read the larger disks.
