Zip
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
The process of compressing data and storing it in a zip file format file. Zip, preceded by a dot, is also the file extension for that file format. The zip file can contain one or more documents or files. It is sometimes used to combine a group of images for electronic transport. When doing this, the images are not compressed (they are usually compressed JPEG images anyway) but are zipped to protect them from corruption during the electronic shipping. Most recent computer systems have built-in support for zip. See also zip file format
