White balance (WB)

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

A function on most digital cameras used to adjust or correct for various lighting conditions. The color of the subject is dependent upon the lighting conditions under which it is viewed. White balance corrects the colors in an image so that a white object will appear white in the final image. Different lighting conditions produce different color temperatures, and those color temperatures occasionally need to be adjusted. The overall purpose is to produce an image without a noticeable colorcast that looks natural. See also color temperature
