Web optimization
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
A process that prepares images before uploading them for display on the World Wide Web. The process involves (1) reducing the size and resolution of an image and increasing the compression to speed up download times; (2) converting the image's color space to sRGB so that it will display better on a wider variety of web browsers; or (3) removing metadata to reduce the size of the image file. This last function is not recommended for digital photographers because images without metadata can become orphans, with reduced or eliminated copyright protection.
