Transfer function

(1) The relationship in a system's input and output that is represented mathematically. It is used in digital photography as a function imbedded in an image file that adjusts an image at the time of printing to allow for factors such as dot gain. (2) A shortened form for modulation transfer function (MTF). See also modulation transfer function (MTF); dot gain
