Taxonomy

A hierarchical controlled vocabulary used for classifying objects into categories. Because it is hierarchical, each descending level classifies objects into increasingly finer categories. A taxonomy is used when keywording images to ensure that images are easy to find with a text-based search. See also controlled vocabulary; keywording
