ONLINE GLOSSARY OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPY

Spherical aberration

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

A defect in a lens such that light coming from different parts of a lens focuses in different locations rather than at a single point. The result is an image that is not sharply in focus at all points. Most lens designs today avoid spherical aberrations; only very inexpensive lenses suffer from this aberration.
