ONLINE GLOSSARY OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPY

Specular highlight

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

A bright reflection off of a subject, usually with no detail. A specular highlight is also the brightest spot in the image. It provides the viewer of an image a better sense of the shape of an object. Regular highlights are bright but usually have more detail than do specular highlights. A catch-light in the eye is an example of a specular highlight.
