Red-eye reduction

A function in some digital cameras that attempts to reduce the visibility of red eye by firing a small pre-flash from the camera's built-in electronic flash. The pre-flash causes the irises of the subject's eyes to constrict, which reduces the amount of light reflected back as red eye. See also red eye
