ONLINE GLOSSARY OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPY

Rayleigh scattering

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

The scattering of light by small particles. This scattering of light is strongly dependent on the wavelength of the light. The sky is perceived as blue as a result of Rayleigh scattering because blue light is scattered more intensely than red light is. The particles are smaller than the wavelength of the light being scattered. See also Mie scattering
