RISC
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
An abbreviation for reduced instruction set computer. Because the computer or microprocessor has a reduced instruction set, a RISC will generally operate faster than a standard computer. The philosophy of this design originated because traditional chip designs incorporated many seldom used features that consumed performance capability. Designers chose to create a chip with a reduced instruction set and increased performance. A RISC computer chip is also less expensive to make because of its simpler design.
