RAID
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
An abbreviation for redundant array of independent disks. Put simply, a box with a number of disk drives in it. The RAID can be configured for speed by dividing up the saved information between two or more drives (RAID level 0), or it can be configured for safety against data loss by automatically storing the information on another drive, a process called disk mirroring (RAID level 1). There are also ways to configure the drives so that the array will continue to operate with one or two failed drives.
