Progressive scan
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
One of the two types of display techniques used for video monitors and television sets. The other technique is interlaced scanning. A progressive scan starts at the top and begins displaying the image, from left to right across the screen, to the bottom. This process is usually repeated sixty times per second. The entire image is displayed; no separate even-odd scan lines are present, as in interlaced scanning. This technique generally provides a higher-quality image display. Traditional analog television commonly uses the interlaced scanning technique. See also interlaced scanning
