progressive JPEG2378022008-01-105T21:36:07Z194.105.17.106 A JPEG image that gets increasingly clear as the resolution builds during downloading. This was an important feature for larger images in the days when nearly everyone had a slow, dial-up modem connection. Now that many users have high-speed Internet connections, progressive JPEGs are not necessary. Not all browsers support this format, which further discourages its use.
