PostScript (PS)

A page description language, or PDL, developed by Adobe for use in electronic desktop publishing. PS precisely describes the layout of the page text and graphics, so a desktop printer can print the page correctly. Not all desktop printers support PostScript. Typically, PostScript is used with laser printers. In many cases, PostScript is being replaced by PDF documents. See PDF
