Plasma display
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
A type of flat-panel display used primarily for newer digital and HDTV television sets. These displays consist of noble gases in plasma cells between two panels. Points on the panels are charged, causing the gas to glow. Plasma displays tend to be more expensive than similar LCD displays and are used in higher-quality television sets. Plasma displays work well for the wide-screen environment and are often brighter, have a wider color spectrum, and offer a wider viewing angle than competing types of displays, although the gap in quality is narrowing.
