ONLINE GLOSSARY OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPY

Pixelization

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

The blurring of a portion of a still or video image to hide it. This technique shows the blurred portion at a lower resolution. An example would be hiding the license plate of a vehicle in an image to be displayed on the Web so that it cannot be easily traced. Lowering the resolution of the license plate is one way of accomplishing this effect. The term pixelization is used because the hiding action involves enlarged pixels. Not to be confused with pixelation or pixilation. See also pixilation; pixilation
