Photo CD (PCD)
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
One of the earliest forms of digital image storage on a CD. The system, developed by Kodak, was used to store images that had been digitized from film. The images were stored in five or six different resolutions, depending on whether Photo CD or Pro Photo CD was ordered. The sizes were Base/16 (128 pixels x 192 pixels), Base/4 (256 x 384), Base (512 x 768), 4 Base (1024 x 1536), 16 Base (2048 x 3072), and 64 Base (4096 x 6144). The last size was the optional, largest size, available only on the Pro Photo CD. Photo CD was used for a number of years beginning in 1992, but is seldom used today. Kodak has discontinued its Kodak Pro Photo CD system and no longer offers technical support for it.
