PROM

Jump to: navigation, search

An abbreviation for programmable read-only memory. A computer memory chip that holds a permanent program in its memory. A ROM is similar, except that its programming is hardwired during manufacture. PROMs are programmed after manufacture and then locked; that is the program is burned into the PROM's memory, so reprogramming is not possible. See also PROM
