Optical disc

A storage mechanism that relies on optical media, such as CDs and DVDs, rather than magnetic media, such as floppy disks and hard drives. New optical disc formats are under development, notably to hold HDTV video information and the additional storage requirements of digital photographers. See also CD-ROM; DVD
