NTSC

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

An abbreviation for National Television Systems Committee. The group that developed the analog television standard of the same name currently in use in the United States and other countries. The NTSC standard uses 525 lines, a frame rate of 29.97 frames per second, and 60 cycles per second (hertz). The frame rate was reduced from 30 frames per second to allow for the addition of a color sub-carrier signal. There are current plans to replace NTSC with an entirely digital standard to allow for more channels and HDTV within the same frequency bandwidth.
