Minidisk
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
A magneto-optical recording disk format developed by Sony in the early 1990s to replace audiocassettes. Minidisks never became popular outside of Japan. The version developed for storing computer data was called MD data, but it too failed to catch on. There were rewriteable versions as well as read-only versions. A higher-capacity version called Hi-MD was also developed.
