Metal-oxide semiconductor
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
An abbreviated form of metal-oxide semiconductor field effect transistor. Also called a MOS or MOSFET. A type of field-effect transistor. One of the most popular MOSs in digital circuits is the CMOS or complementary metal-oxide semiconductor. MOS is currently the most widely used type of transistor in digital circuits. MOSs are basically miniature switches and are widely used in digital cameras and computers. See also CMOS; field effect transistor (FET)
