Megabyte (MB)

Also called Mbyte. One million bytes. A measure of storage in a computer or memory chip. A megabyte is a group of bits. By convention, a byte is now recognized as being made up of 8 bits. A byte is 28 bits. That means that a byte can have values from 0 to 255, or a total of 256 different values. When prefixes are added, such as kilo, mega, and giga, the terms are widely used in digital photography to measure the storage capacity of hard drives and memory cards. See also byte
