MIP map

Also called mipmap or texture map. A bitmap image that has a reduced level of detail used with a texture or pattern in a digital image to speed up processing speeds. MIP maps are used in three-dimensional computer graphics programs, such as games, because of the detail in the images and the speed of the action. MIP is an abbreviation for the Latin phrase multum in parvum, or many in one.
