Stands for JPEG file interchange format. A file specification standard. JFIF is the actual name of one of the common file formats that uses the JPEG compression technique. The formal name is JPEG/JFIF, but most of the time just JPEG is used. The JPEGs used online are generally JPEG/JFIFs, while JPEGs used in cameras may be another type, such as Exif. JPEG/Exif images are similar and can often be treated the same as JPEG/JFIF images. See also JPEG
