JCII

An abbreviation for Japan Camera Inspection Institute, a shortened version of Japan Camera and Optical Instruments Inspection and Testing Institute. JCII has been replaced by the Japan Camera Industry Institute, which enjoys the same abbreviation. JCII was formed to improve the quality of Japanese optical instruments, including camera lenses. At one time, a small, oval gold sticker was placed on each lens that passed inspection that stated, 'Passed. JCII.'
