International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
An international organization that sets many commercial standards. Its members are representatives of national standards organizations. Many of its standards are adopted as laws by individual countries or internationally through the use of treaties. The standards set by ISO for film speed are used by digital cameras. The ISO has also developed standards for computers, the Internet, and digital media cards. Without the work of the ISO, there would be much less interchangeability in digital photography. Founded in 1947, the ISO is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
