ONLINE GLOSSARY OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPY

Image storage

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

The manner or media used to store digital images. Some common media include hard drives or disk drives, which are both magnetic storage methods. Optical media such as CDs and DVDs are also often used, especially for backup. Less-frequently-used media storage include floppy disks and zip disks, both popular magnetic media in the past. Camera media cards such as CompactFlash (CF) cards are used in the camera for temporary storage of images but are not generally used for long- term storage needs.
