Hot-swap

The ability to remove a device, such as a disk drive or other peripheral, from a computer without having to turn the device and the computer off. In the case of a disk drive, the unit still must be ejected before unplugging to prevent data loss. USB and FireWire devices are examples of hot-swappable devices.
