Gigabyte (GB)
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
Equal to 1,000 megabytes, or 109 bytes in terms of hard disk storage. Computers count bytes a little differently, so a gigabyte is equal to 230 bytes, or 1,073,741,824 bytes, when the term is used to measure computer memory. Just to add to the confusion, hard drive manufacturer Seagate uses 1,024,000,000 as a GB on their hard drives. Note that Gb refers to gigabit and GB refers to gigabyte. People often use gig to mean gigabyte.
