ONLINE GLOSSARY OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPY

Four thirds

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

A standard developed by Olympus and Kodak for digital cameras. Four thirds refers to the aspect ratio of the length of the digital image sensor to its height in the system. One reason to select four thirds as the aspect ratio is that it is the same ratio used by computer monitors. A number of other companies have joined the four-thirds consortium since it was first introduced.
