ONLINE GLOSSARY OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPY

Flexible program

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

A feature designed by Nikon for its digital cameras. When the camera is set on P, for program, the camera selects the shutter speed and aperture best suited for the exposure it has calculated. By turning the main command dial, the photographer can change the shutter speed and aperture settings to another combination that produces the same exposure. In this way, the photographer can decide whether he or she needs a higher shutter speed to stop action or a slower one to blur motion. Or perhaps the photographer wants a larger f-stop so he or she has more depth of field. All of these adjustments can easily be done without leaving the program mode.
