Firmware

Computer software stored on a ROM, a PROM, an eROM, an ePRom, or in other ways and used in a hardware device of some kind. Firmware is not lost when power is turned off. In some cases the user can update the firmware. Digital cameras and computer peripherals often have firmware in them. See also ePROM
