Field effect transistor (FET)
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
A transistor that controls the conductivity of semiconductor material by using an electric field to control the shape of a channel in the semiconductor material. A FET can be thought of as a simple switch. FET's are used in CMOS integrated circuits for low-power amplification. They are generally found in integrated circuits of all kinds as one of the many components. They are used in digital photography as part of the image sensor in some digital cameras.
