ONLINE GLOSSARY OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPY

FARE

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

An abbreviation for Film Automatic Retouching and Enhancement. FARE is a technology developed by Canon to eliminate dust and scratches when scanning film. It is similar to Digital ICE. The earlier version of FARE does not work with Kodachrome. FARE works only with Canon-brand scanners. Like ICE, FARE uses two scans, with the first one being infrared. It can use the IR scan to subtract out the dust and scratches automatically. The generic term for this is infrared cleaning. See also Digital ICE
