(1) The process of getting information from a digital image. This can be extracting the Exif (camera information) or the IPTC (metadata). The extraction of data is done with various software programs such as Photoshop. (2) A tool, which Photoshop calls a filter. This tool is designed to assist in removing a subject from a background, with the intention of having no background or to place the subject on a new background. See also EXIF; metadata
