Extra low dispersion (ED)

A type of glass, often made with rare earth metals, used to manufacture lenses. ED is used to reduce chromatic aberrations, especially those on longer telephoto lenses. Nikon first developed ED for its camera lenses. Other manufacturers have come up with similar ideas as well, although they may use a different name or designation for their lenses.
