Exchangeable image file format (Exif or EXIF)
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
A file format used to save data primarily in digital camera images. The data usually includes date, time, aperture, shutter speed, focal length, metering mode, and ISO speed. It also tells the photographer if a flash was used. In addition, there is space for location information, such as from a GPS receiver, and copyright information. Only a few cameras currently offer the last two capabilities. Exif data can be seen in a number of image processing programs such as Photoshop. See also metadata
