Erase

The process of removing data. Portions of an image can be erased with the eraser tool in Photoshop. An entire image or data file can be erased from a hard drive or from computer memory. In the case of an entire image, the file is usually erased by deleting the entry from the computer's directory. The actual image is still there until it is written over. This information can come in handy if an image is accidentally erased. Special software is designed to recover erased images. Most photographers will need this special software at some time—when they accidentally erase an image. See also eraser
