Erasable programmable read only memory

Also known as an EPROM memory chip and non-volatile memory. A hardware device used in the past to store images. One advantage of EPROM is its data stays in the chip even when the power is turned off. The main use of EPROM is for programs or data that needs to be accessed frequently but erased and changed infrequently. Firmware is an example of software that needs to be changed infrequently.
