ONLINE GLOSSARY OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPY

Dye-based inks

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

Inks made primarily from dyes for use in inkjet printers. These dyes are relatively inexpensive and easy to use. They also have the widest gamut and saturation of colors of the four types of inks available for inkjet printers. The four types are dye inks (also called dye-based inks), archival dye inks, pigmented inks, and pigment inks. Dye-based inks are water-soluble, so they will run or spot easily with water. They also have a tendency to fade more than the other types of inks. See also archival dye inks; pigmented inks
