Software that allows a computer to control or drive devices attached to it, such as printers and scanners. Manufacturers often regularly update these drivers. When a computer operating system is upgraded, it is often necessary to upgrade drivers by downloading new, more-current ones from the manufacturer's website. If a computer user begins having problems with a device that has operated well in the past, checking and upgrading the driver is a good idea.
