Dot
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
A drop of ink on paper used in printing. On inkjet printers, the photograph is made of small droplets of color and black ink that are sprayed on the paper. A dot matrix printer uses larger dots created from pins hitting a ribbon, much like a typewriter, to print letters. In newspapers and magazines, photographs are created from small drops of different colored inks. See also Dots per inch (dpi)
