ONLINE GLOSSARY OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPY

Dispersion

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

The spreading of colors, or wavelengths of light, as they travel between media of differing density. This refraction varies according to the wavelength. A prism is an example: the colors are dispersed because some bend more than others based on their wavelength. After traveling through a prism, a ray of white light makes a complete color spectrum of visible light.
