Descreening

The process of removing the moire pattern that occurs when images are scanned from images printed in publications such as magazines, books, and newspapers. Images printed in publications are created with a series of dots in a process called halftone printing. Photographing the original images through screens creates halftone dots, a process that is currently done with software. Still, the process of removing the moire pattern is called descreening in reference to the historical use of screens in halftone printing. See also halftone image; halftone screen
