ONLINE GLOSSARY OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPY

Demosaicing

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

The kind of software algorithm used to calculate the missing two colors from each pixel in data from a Bayer pattern sensor. This software is used in the camera, or later in a computer if the images are captured in raw format. In a Bayer pattern sensor, filters convert the incoming image into red, green, and blue elements. Each pixel represents only one color and needs to be processed so that three colors can be associated with each pixel. The demosaicing software accomplishes this pixel to colors association.
