A filter measurement system designed to simplify making color temperature adjustments. The systems are available in both red and blue. The measurement is in decamireds. The term mired, an abbreviated version of micro reciprocal degree, which is equal to a value of one million divided by the color temperature in kelvins. A decamired is a mired divided by ten. If a shift of 30 mireds is needed, then a 3 filter is used. If a red shift is needed, then a red filter, R3, is used. If a blue shift is needed, then a blue filter, B3, is used. The filters can be added together. Thus, R3 = R1.5 + R1.5. If the red and blue filters of equal strength are added together, the result is a neutral gray color. The filters will produce the same visual difference in an image no matter what the color temperature of the image. See also Kelvin
