Damaged. An image file that is corrupted is one that has been damaged in some way that it can no longer be read by software. In some cases, depending on the type of corruption, special software can be run to correct the image file. Corruption can occur when normal data processing operations are interrupted. This can occur when a memory card is pulled out while it is still writing or while it is still in use. It can also occur if there is a power failure during a data operation. It can be caused by random factors or malfunctioning hardware as well. Good backups and careful image processing are good preventive measures to take.
