CompactFlash card
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
Also called CF card and CF. A type of memory card used mainly in digital cameras to store images. The CF card can also be used for other types of data. The CompactFlash differs from a similar product, the Microdrive, in that it is solid state with no moving parts; the Microdrive is a miniature hard drive with a high-speed disk inside. The CompactFlash is also more robust, faster, and can handle movement better than the microdrive. Both memory devices will generally fit the same camera. The CF standard specifies that the cards are 43 mm by 36 mm by 5 mm. There are currently three different types of CF cards, denoted by adding I, II, or III. CF I memory cards are only 3.3 mm thick and can use an adapter to be read in a CF II slot. There are now CF III cards that are the same size as CF II cards but offer higher internal speeds.
